Corpus of Latvian Autobiographies
Reinsone, Sanita; Matulis, Haralds; Ļaksa-Timinska, Ilze; Žvarte, Elvīra
The corpus consists of 74 unpublished autobiographies, life stories, and memoirs in Latvian, written between 1900 and 2024. All materials have been collected, digitised, and are preserved in the Autobiography Collection of the Archives of Latvian Folklore, Institute of Literature, Folklore and Art, University of Latvia. The corpus has been created in collaboration with the University of Latvia Digital Humanities Centre. The Autobiography Collection, established in 2018, brings together materials written by individuals across different periods to document their personal experiences and the historical contexts of their lives. The collection primarily includes diaries, written life stories, memoirs, and correspondence, supplemented by contextual materials such as photographs, interviews with authors, and accounts provided by their relatives. Part of the collection, including manuscript files, metadata, and transcriptions, is publicly accessible through the digital platform garamantas.lv (see Repositories → Autobiography Collection).
